The virtue of Hajj

The Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) said:
"Whoever performs Hajj (pilgrimage)
and does not have sexual relations (with his wife),
nor commits sin, nor disputes unjustly (during Hajj),
then he returns from Hajj as pure and free from sins
as on the day on which his mother gave birth to him."
(Reported by Al - Bukhari and Muslim)

The Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) said:
“From one ‘Umrah to the next is an expiation
for whatever (sins) came between them,
and for an accepted Hajj
there is no reward but Paradise.”

(Reported by Al - Bukhari and Muslim)

If Hajj is accepted does that means that major sins are forgiven?
The answer is Islam QA

The Virtues of Ayat Al-Kursi

Let's teach our kids and memorize this ayah.

Allah! La ilaha illa Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He), the Ever Living, the One Who sustains and protects all that exists. Neither slumber, nor sleep overtake Him. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on earth. Who is he that can intercede with Him except with His Permission? He knows what happens to them (His creatures) in this world, and what will happen to them in the Hereafter . And they will never compass anything of His Knowledge except that which He wills. His Kursee extends over the heavens and the earth, and He feels no fatigue in guarding and preserving them. And He is the Most High, the Most Great. (This Verse 2:255 is called Ayat-ul-Kursee.)

Imam Bukhari writes that Abu Hurayrah (Allah be well pleased with him) said:

The Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and give him peace) deputised me to keep Sadaqah of Ramadan. Someone came and started taking handfuls of the Sadaqah, quickly.

I took hold of him and said, “By Allah, I will take you to the Messenger of Allah.”
He said, “I am needy and have many dependents.”

I released him, and in the morning the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and give him peace) asked me, “What did your prisoner do yesterday?”

I said, “O Messenger of Allah! The person complained of being needy and of having many dependents, so, I pitied him and let him go.”

The Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and give him peace) said, “Indeed, he told you a lie and he will return.”

I believed that he would return again as the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and give him peace) had told me that he would return. So, I waited for him watchfully.

When he returned and started stealing handfuls of foodstuff, I caught hold of him again and said, “I will definitely take you to the Messenger of Allah .

He said, “Leave me, for I am very needy and have many dependents. I promise I will not come back again.” I pitied him and let him go.

In the morning the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and give him peace) asked me, “What did your prisoner do?”

I replied, “O Messenger of Allah! He complained of his great need and of too many dependents, so I took pity on him and set him free.”

The Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and give him peace) said, “Verily, he told you a lie and he will return.”

I waited for him attentively for the third time, and when he came and started stealing handfuls of the Sadaqah, I caught hold of him and said, “I will surely take you to the Messenger of Allah as it is the third time you promise not to return, yet you break your promise and come.”

He said, “Forgive me and I will teach you some words with which Allah will benefit you.”

I asked, “What are they?” He replied, “Whenever you go to bed, recite Ayat al-Kursi: ‘Allah – There is no God but He, the Living, the Everlasting,’ till you finish the whole verse.
If you do so, Allah will appoint a guard for you who will stay with you and no devil will come near you till morning.”

So, I released him. In the morning, the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and give him peace) asked, “What did your prisoner do yesterday?”

I replied, “He claimed that he would teach me some words by which Allah will benefit me, so I let him go.”

The Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and give him peace) asked, “What are they?”

I replied, “He said to me, ‘Whenever you go to bed, recite Ayat al-Kursi from the beginning to the end: ‘Allah – There is no God but He, the Living, the Everlasting.’
He further said to me, ‘If you do so, Allah will appoint a guard for you, who will stay with you, and no devil will come near you till morning.’ (Abu Hurayrah or another sub-narrator) added that they (the companions) were very keen to do good deeds.

The Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) said, “He really spoke the truth, although he is an absolute liar.

Do you know whom you were talking to, these three nights, O Abu Hurayra?”

Abu Hurayra said, “No.”

He said, “It was the Devil.”

What About Homework?

Assalamualaikum,

I just read this article What About Homework? by Jane Bluestein, Ph.D.

I quote some of sentences from the article:

"Research has found that the amount of homework students have does not correlate with performance on achievement tests. Some districts are now pushing for more meaningful assignments and setting limits on the amount of homework kids have to reduce kids’ stress and increase family time."

The articles above is the homework problem in the public school.
Now, how is our homeschooling kids doing in their homeworks? Too many or too low.
Too many homeworks, the kids get stress and don't have enough family time.
In homeschooling, we do have alot of time with our kids. The family time is not a problem for us.

I think, Homeschoolers mom are more wise and should be the best teacher for their own kids. This is the reason why we are doing homeschooling.

Each kid is special. We never teach each kids in the same way.
Some kids need more homeworks and the other kids don't need alot of homeworks.

Some time, We take day off...no homeworks, but we are doing outside homeworks.
Field trip is one way to do homeworks, too.
You don't have to go to museum or special place.
Going to Bank while you are doing something in the bank is field trip, too.
Visiting our family or friends is field trip, too.
Going to masjid is field trip, too.
The kids will learn the real world outside...

I remember when we went to Bank to do the wire transfer. My kids in the same time asked about the process in the bank to the bank managers there.
It was suprised me that they learned so many thing just for 30 minutes in the Bank. They learned and had fun in the same time. They got candy, too. Sometimes, I asked them to write the stories what they had learnt.

Here’s a terrific article about Homework for parents and educators. You can read in

Jokes of the week:

Reluctantly, a mother agreed to let her son move into the basement so he could have his own room. Soon she realized one advantage of this. Instead of yelling for him to come to breakfast, she would flip the light switch, and he would come running to breakfast.

One morning the mother flicked the switch, but her son did not promptly appear. She flicked the light on and off several times. Finally the son shouted, "I'm on my way. You didn't have to yell."

Have Happy Homeschooling Day to all of you.

The Way To A Good End

Allah (the Exalted and Almighty) has said:
"Wheresoever you may be, death will overtake you
even if you are in fortresses built up strong and high!"
(An-Nisâ’ :78)

Oh Allah, I seek refuge in You from disbelief and proverty.
Oh Allah, I seek refuge in You from torment in the grave.
None the right has to be worshipped except You.

Who Is Our Best Friend?

Assalamualaikum,

There are 5 types of Our Best friend:

1. Our best friend is like Oxygen.
You can not live without oxygen.
You need him all the time in happiness or in sadness.
He is your very best companion.
He always likes you and be with you.

2. Our best friend is like Food .
Your best friend is always beneficial to you.
He always supports you.
We always need friends that support us.
The same thing that we need foods because we need to eat.

3.Our best friend is like Medicine.
This kind of friend is bitter.
You only need a friend in your difficulty time.

4. Our best friend is like Wine.
He gives you a good taste but he is harming you.
He is good and always talks nice but he is never productive.

5. Our best friend is like Hammer.
He gives you bitter taste, harmful , and destructive.

You should not have best friends who are not pious/religious.
Your friends or your family will be destructive if they are not religious.
The relationship should base upon aqidah of our religion.

If you love for the sake of Allah, you have to respect in according to Islam manner.
If Allah loves you, He will give you good friends.

There is no perfection but we have to try to reach the perfection.
We correct ourself and our surronding according to the religion.

Our friends should always give good advices.
Do not forget to give good advices to non Muslim, too.

Five ayahs from Al Quran that Syeikh gave last week are as following:

1. Surah 2: 155-156
This struggle will provide you with many opportunities to test your own mettle. You may encounter wars and massacres and also be confronted with scarcity of food and loss of life and property or with devastation of fields and orchards. Such ordeals may take place but ultimately those who remain steadfast and do not waver in their commitment to establish Allah Almighty 's System, will be successful. They meet every challenge saying: "We have dedicated ourselves to the establishment of the Divine System and come what may we will continue advancing towards that goal". (Surah AL Baqarah, 155-156)

Quran today: Surah 2: 155-156

2. Surah 3: 173-174
"No harm touched them" since they say "Allah is sufficient for us and most excellent is the Protector." (Surat Ali-'Imran: 173-174).

Paradise in Al Quran by Harun Yahya

3. Surah 21:83-84
And Ayyub when he called out to his Lord, "Great harm has afflicted me and You are the Most Merciful of the merciful," We responded to him and removed from him the harm which was afflicting him and restored his family to him, and the same again with them, as a mercy direct from Us and a Reminder to all worshippers. (Qur'an, 21:83-84)

Allah's Miracle in the Quran

4. Surah 21:87
And Zan-Noon (Jonah, "the one with an `N' in his name"), abandoned his mission in protest, thinking that we could not control him. He ended up imploring from the darkness (of the big fish's belly): "There is no god other than You. Be You glorified. I have committed a gross sin." (Quran, 21:87)

5. Surah 40:44
"Some day you will remember what I am telling you now. I leave the judgment of this matter to GOD; GOD is the Seer of all the people." (Quran, 40:44)

The Important of Reading in Our Kids

Assalamualaikum,

I just read news about:
Study: Americans Reading A Lots Less

I quote some from the news that:

Americans are reading a lot less. That's according to a 99-page study, "To Read or Not to Read: A Question of National Consquence," released Monday by the National Endowment for the Arts
as a follow-up to a 2004 NEA survey, "Reading at Risk," that found an increasing number of adult Americans were not even reading one book a year.
The new study examined data on everything from how many 9-year-olds read every day for "fun" (54 percent) to the percentage of high school graduates deemed by employers as "deficient" in writing in English (72 percent).

I think , we are as Muslim know that reading in our life is very important. Nowaday, there is not many people, especially Muslim, love to read. They are all busy with working, housework, internet/games, etc. They don't have time to read, even reading the Quran for 15 minutes everyday. Syaitan makes us busy in this dunya without we realize it that our life is too short. You will find alot of non Muslim like to read more than Muslim. Everytime, I walked in NY city, I saw people holding book or newspaper or magazines, they love to read. Even the research study show that alot of people are not reading. This study is not for Muslim. Muslim should love more reading.

The first thing that Allah revealed through Angel Jibril to Prophet Muhammad SAW is IQRO or READ

You can read
Surah 96. The Clot, Read, Proclaim, surat Al-Alaq,

and Translation surah (96) Al Alaq

To memorize the surah is in here

Insha Allah, Muslim will read more in their daily life, especially reading and learning Al-QURAN

Let's read more. We know that by reading and learning more, we can get more knowledge.

You can read more about Knowledge and Youth
And You can hear beautiful recitation Surat Iqra by sheikh Abdul Basit

An another article that was sent to homeschool group is about Earth Is Rapidly Getting Warmer

For more informations about in:

Global warming,

The Early Warning Sign ,
and Global Warming Predictions

All above, such as alot of people are not reading alot good books (getting less knowledge) and the earth is getting warmer, are the signs of The Last Day.

One of the Hadiths about the sign of Last Day is:

Multitude of earthquakes is a sign of the nearness of the Day of Judgement, Abu Hurayrah (radhi allahu anhu) related from Allah's Messenger (sallalalhu alaihi wa-sallam): "The Hour will not happen until knowledge is taken out, time passes quickly, earthquakes increase in number, tribulations (fitna) appear, and al-Harj increases in number." It was said, "What is al-Harj, O Messenger of Allah r?" He said, "Al Qatl, al Qatl (Killing)." [Musnad Ahmad]

Whoever Neglects Prayer

Assalamualaikum,

Today, I share a hadith with the kids about:

Whoever Neglects Prayer
Allah will send Fifteen Punishments upon Him
[Transmitted by Sahih Bukhari]

The Prophet Muhammad (sal-allahu- alleihi-wasallam ) said:
The one who disdains the prayers will receive fifteen punishments from Allah. Six punishments in this lifetime, Three while dying , Three in the grave & Three on the Day of Judgment.

The Six Punishments of Life:

1. Allah takes away blessings from his age (makes his life misfortunate).

2. Allah does not accept his Dua.

3. Allah erases the features of good people from his face.

4. He will be detested by all creatures on earth.

5. Allah does not award him for his good deeds.

6. He will not be included in the Dua of good people.

The Three Punishments while Dying:

1. He dies humiliated.

2. He dies hungry.

3. He dies thirsty. Even if he drinks the water of all seas he will still be thirsty.

The Punishments in the Grave:

1. Allah tightens his grave until his chest ribs come over each other.

2. Allah pours on him fire with embers.

3. Allah sets on him a snake called "the brave", "the bold" which hits Him from morning until afternoon for leaving Fajr prayer, from the afternoon until Asr for leaving Dhuhr prayer and so on. With each strike he sinks 70 yards under the ground.

The Three Punishments on the Day of Judgment:

1. Allah sends who would accompany him to hell pulling him on the face.

2. Allah gives him an angry look that makes the flesh of his face fall down.

3. Allah judges him strictly and orders him to be thrown in hell.

American Math Competition 8

Assalamualaikum,

Today, we went to Avon Public Library. My three children were in that competition.
At 11 AM, we got there. It took an hour driving car. Alhamdulillah, we found the library.

We waited inside the library, in children section. At 11:37Am, It's sholat Zuhur time.
I asked the librarian there to have the permission if we can pray in that corner.
She said , " Of course you can."
Alhamdulillah, we did pray inside library.

At 12PM, We went inside the community Room to get ready for the test.
It's about 17 kids.

They started at 12:15PM.

While I waited the kids having the test, My youngest daughter and I went to children section again for an hour.

At 1:15PM, I went down to the test room. I met the person who in charge for this competition, sister Jean Henares. She is from Philippine. She has 4 children. One of her children is the winner of Spelling Bee for the third place in US.
It's nice to meet her. She reminds me about my old friend, Lizzy in New York. I miss her.

Insha Allah, I will let you know who is the winner in December.
The main thing is that they try their best. I love my kids so much.

We plan to do the Spelling Bee and Math counts in January 2008.
The Geo Bee, we will not join on this Friday. Insha Allah, next year.

All my children were very tired. They slept early after praying Isha at 5:54PM.
I knew that they have learned so many thing today.
This is what they said about the contest.
Math is kind of fun in the contest.
The bad part is about the time when you realize it is only 40 minutes for 25 problems.
The best part is the multiple choice.

I hope this experince, it will useful for the next year AMC8 and other competition

Al Taharah

Assalamualaikum

Al-Taharah

[Sahih Muslim : Book 2 'Al-Taharah' , Number 0432]Abu Malik at-Ash'ari Radi Allah Anhu) reported: The Messenger of Allah (sal-allahu- alleihi-wasallam ) said: Cleanliness is half of faith and al-Hamdu Liliah (Praise be to Allah) fills the scale, and Subhan Allah (Glory be to Allah) and al-Hamdu Liliah (Praise be to Allah) fill upwhat is between the heavens and the earth, and prayer is a light, and charity is proof (of one's faith) and endurance is a brightness and the Holy Qur'an is a proof on your behalf or against you. New Haven mosque celebrating 20 years

Assalamualaikum,

On Saturday , My Oldest son had chance to recite Quran and my youngest son did the Hadith in the program New Haven mosque celebrating 20 years
The program started with children's events at 3 p.m., with a panel of original mosque members and other area Muslim leaders at 6 p.m. and Imam Zaid Shakir speaking at 8 p.m.
A graduate of American University in Washington with a master's degree in political science from Rutgers University, Shakir converted to Islam 30 years ago while serving in the U.S. Air Force.
While imam of Masjid al-Islam from 1988-94, Shakir spearheaded the community renewal and grassroots anti-drug effort and taught political science and Arabic at Southern Connecticut State University.
A panelist with the Washington Post's "On Faith" on-line column. Shakir is a scholar-in-residence and lecturer at Zaytuna Institute in Hayward, Calif. and is a graduate of Syria's Abu Noor University

Where is Yemen?

Assalamualaikum,

It's nice to know you, sister Sumayyah.
So, your family is in Yemen. That's why your website is called Yemenlinks......is that right?

I have four kids. I started homeschooling when I was having the fourth baby. Alhamdulillah, our homeschooling is going fine.

My friends said "You are looking for trouble." They thought that homeschooling is lot of works with kids at home.
I only gave them big smile. If I answered it, it's not going to change their opinion about homeschooling.

My kids learn the country of Yemen for this week.

This is all about Yemen.
